From Movable Type

Tag of the Day is a Movable Type community project, centered around the idea that the community can focus on a specific aspect of Movable Type's powerful templating language in order to explain, promote, and popularize the language one tag at a time. In its original conception, the project would pick a single tag or small set of tags to feature once or twice a week, with community contributors writing posts, documentation, comments, example templates, and sample usage for promotion and linking on movabletype.org as well as other community sites.

Yes, "Tag of the Day" is something of a misnomer, as it may be more than one tag and it may only be twice a week.
